Editor’s Note: Amidst last year’s pandemic, 2.5 million women left the US workforce. In January 2021, another 275,000 women gave up working. We couldn’t agree more with Vice President Kamala Harris when she wrote in a Washington Post op-ed: “This mass exodus of women from the workforce is a national emergency.” As Women’s History Month begins, we acknowledge women’s courage, perseverance, and leadership with our Illustrated Tribute to Women in the Pandemic.
